The Concept

concept and inspiration

La Perla launches a new concept of loungewear and beachwear for men with the Spring/Summer 2015 collections. The concept behind them is a sophisticated mix-and-match of different fabrics and garments characterised by a sartorial approach, and inspired by the submarine world. The symbol of this mood is an evocative and surreal print of a flying oyster protecting a pearl that has been transformed into a mysterious eye.

Emiliano Rinaldi, the Tuscan designer in charge of the creative direction for this project, wanted to add a signature La Perla touch, choosing fabrics and details taken from the world of feminine lingerie and reinterpreting them within a vision for men’s style. The fusion of underwear and outwear, which has become one of the distinctive features of the female La Perla collections, is another concept adopted for the new men's collection. The kimonos, trousers and t-shirts were designed as hybrid creations to be worn freely both at home and outdoors. They can be worn together as matching pieces or alongside timeless garments such as a pair of jeans.

silhouettes and accessories

Among the key pieces in the collection are the night robes and kimonos in raffia fabric or jacquard silk, worn over long gilets in subtle and transparent fabrics such as silk chiffon, cupro and silk/ cotton. They are matched with oversized trouser bottoms, emphasising relaxed elegance. The luxury appeal is blended with echoes of street wear in the form of tracksuits in cotton and cashmere, worn over a 100% cashmere t-shirt or with knee-length trousers. Other highlights in the collection include the macramé t-shirts and high-rise briefs with suit-style thin nervures. The colour palette develops from a particularly soft shade of white, through to an ultramarine blue, coral red and black.

The submarine world also inspires the beachwear collection that uses an original Lycra® fabric, enhanced with an iridescent effect resembling fish scales. Special garments such as the wet suit and full swimsuit are made using this material. Flying fish and oysters, jellyfish and seahorses feature dominantly in the prints used for the swimming shorts, that can also be worn in the day with a mesh polo shirt. Both collections are complemented by two models of shoes: moccasins with a perforated leather fringe and trainer-style rubber sole, and biker boots with a trainer-style sole and visible zip, made from the same technical fabric with iridescent scales that features on the beachwear garments.
