STREET ART BECOMES ART CHARITY
From 13 April to 3 May Florence (Italy) will become a great melting pot of buskers with an urban art event promoted by the Venerabile Arciconfraternita della Misericordia, the first charity company in the world, in operation since 1244. This Florentine institution has decided to promote and support the event Streets Without Walls as a first stage in favour of the project Art Charity "Villaggio San Sebastiano” to finance a vanguard structure for the accommodation of the intellectively disabled, an European research centre and an art-therapy complex. The event involves about sixty artists, among the most interesting on the Italian and European urban art scene and is split into a number of appointments in various parts of the city. The opening saw the Milanese Bros at work on a large fabric in front of the facade of the Palazzo della Misericordia alongside the Cathedral. At the same time, a live painting session was staged and a number of artists intervened on a selection of La Perla creations, transforming them into one-of-a-kind collection pieces. In particular, the team of urban artists, Dado & Stefy, known at international level for their intense creative activity with frequent forays into fashion, has "customised” two special pieces of the La Perla Prêt-à-Porter collection, a white wedding gown transformed by a myriad brush and spray painted pink flowers and a green silk dress of the S/S 2009 collection, made one of a kind by trickles of colour. All the La Perla garments will be auctioned together with the works donated by the individual artists on the website
